Gabon has the highest purchasing power in Africa at
PPP US$12 742 per capita , according to the latest preliminary results from the
ICP study from the World Bank. Botswana, Equatorial Guinee and Mauritius follow before the economic powerhouse South Africa with PPP $ 8 477 comes in at number 5. One distinguishing feature is that all of the top 4 countries are small countries with populations of less then 1.7 million.
This compares to a PPP $26 404 in the OECD, PPP $4091 in China and PPP $ 2126 in India.
