Defining development and visualising what development should or should not achieve is not a simple act of grabbing the latest text book. A lot is and have been done in the name of development to the detriment of people and nature. Abstract concepts and models on development, although powerful in shaping a development agenda and providing strategic direction, may easily become out of touch with the reality of poor excluded people and a defenseless natural environment.
